A Message to Parents/Guardians from George Daley, Deputy Minister (EECD)

Posted: May 28, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I would like to take this time to thank you and your children for your dedication to continued learning throughout the pandemic. You have been asked to play a larger role in your child’s education over the past few months and we recognize this situation has often been challenging, but as parents and guardians, you have steppedup to the challenge admirably.

I would like to advise you that the school calendar for the 2019-20 school year will be modified, the last day of school for students will now be June 12. At that time, home-learning options will come to an end, the existing learning and wellness resources will continue to be accessible through New Brunswick Family Resource page.

As you may have heard, a final report card will be issued evaluating your child’s progress up until the closure of schools on March 13, 2020. As a reminder, no provincial assessments will take place, with the exception of the voluntary Grade 12 French Oral Proficiency virtual interviews.

The final day of school for teachers will be June 23, this will allow educators time to prepare for the upcoming school year and engage in professional development opportunities.

Once again, I would like to thank you for your support throughout these uncertain times.Together, we have been navigating unchartered territory and I appreciate your patience and understanding as the situation continues to evolve. The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development remains committed to keeping you informed as the situation progresses. More information on return to school come September will be made available to you in the coming weeks.

George Daley, Deputy Minister
