Information for parents (Week of February 22 to 26, 2016)

Posted: February 22, 2016

Hello parents and guardians,

There are quite a few events happening at CMS this week, including Pink T-Shirt Day on Wednesday, a Student Wellness Survey on Wednesday and Movie Night on Friday.

1) Pink Shirt Day:  Please note that we are encouraging everyone to wear pink this Wednesday in support of anti-bullying. Any student wishing to purchase this year's pink anti-bullying t-shirt may do so tomorrow for $10 on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please see Mrs. Ryan if interested.

2) Wellness Survey:

The New Brunswick Student Wellness Survey is a provincial initiative of the New Brunswick Department of Social Development - Wellness Branch. Data collection and analysis is carried out by the New Brunswick Health Council in cooperation with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. The purpose of the survey is to examine the health and wellness attitudes and behaviours of students in grades 6-12.

Students will be asked questions about their wellness behaviours such as healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco-free living, mental fitness and resilience.  In addition, the survey touches upon students’ perceptions about school, social relationships and environments, bullying, and health outcomes. Students in grades 7-12 will also be asked questions about sex, alcohol and drug use.

On Wednesday, our school will be participating in this survey during Period 4. Participation by students at the time of survey administration will be voluntary and anonymous. Prior to the date of the survey, parents who do not want their child to participate can call the New Brunswick Health Council at 1-877-225-2521 and must provide the school name, student name, home room teacher’s name and grade.

3) Movie Night:  The Jurassic Park movie that will be shown on Friday evening is rated PG so signed parental/guardian consent is required for student entry (sorry, no exceptions).
