Read 30 minutes everyday.

When you finish your novel write me a reading letter (form and prompts to follow are in my documents section) about your novel.  Send it to me by email at: christina.savoy@nbed.nb.ca

In your writing journal, choose one of the prompts daily from below to write about:

What occasions did you celebrate so far during this pandemic? Make a list. Choose 1 or 2 and explain how you celebrated this year compared to how you would normally celebrate. Which was better?

Interview a parent or another adult. Ask them what their biggest change has been and what they are most thankful for.  Ask their top 3 moments from this experience.

Choose any TV show or movie. Write the title, characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end.  Write an alternate ending for this show or movie.

Make a T-chart. Write a list of things you like about learning at home versus at school.

What movies have you watched during the last 2 months?  What genre do you prefer? Make a list of all the movies you have watched this month and then choose 2 to compare.

Billie Ellish said “In the public eye, girls and women with strong perspectives are hated. If you're a girl with an opinion, people just hate you. There are still people who are afraid of successful women, and that's so lame.” Write a response stating if you agree or disagree with her and explain why.

Mother’s Day was this month. Take time to write a letter to your mom, grandmother, aunt or a special friend. Tell them why you are grateful to have them in your life.  Do something special to show you are thankful such as washing the dishes, helping cook a meal or giving them a special hug.

Read your book while doing a wall sit. How long can you do it for? Try reading while doing a plank. Which is easier? Try to increase your time for both. Write a summary in your journal of what you read while doing the wall sit and plank.

Pick a page from the book you are reading. Change all of the nouns to things you see right in front of you in your house, then read it aloud.

Writing:

Create an acrostic poem to give to someone special for Mothers’ Day.

To create an acrostic poem, follow these five easy steps:

  1. Decide what to write about.
  2. Write your word down vertically. MOTHER/GRAMMY/NANA/KOOKUM/ MERE
  3. Brainstorm words or phrases that describe your mother /grandmother
  4. Place your brainstormed words or phrases on the lines that begin with the same letters.
  5. Fill in the rest of the lines to create a poem. It does not have to rhyme!

Read for 30 minutes each day. Record what you read. Once you finish a novel, write me a reading letter (form and prompts can be found on my Teacher Page in the documents.).  You only have to write one letter for the first completed novel during home learning (March to June).

Choose one writing choice from below each day.

What is something you have always wondered about? Write a list of things you wonder about and choose one to research and try to find answers for. Write out what you learned to share with other people who may wonder the same thing.

Think about the river. Write about what the river. What does it mean to you, your family, and your community?  How does the river change in the seasons and what do we use it for?

Write your thoughts on home learning. Do you like it better or would you prefer going to classes? Do you think home learning works better for certain age groups or certain personalities?

How did the new guidelines presently by Premier Higgs change your and/or your family’s life? Did including another household in your bubble make a big difference or not? Journal about it.

Go to YouTube and listen to a few songs about Covid-19 that people have come up with. Write a song of your own expressing your thoughts. You can simply change the words to a song you know or put your words to a well-known tune. Record it and share.

Make a list of all the things you have done to pass time during all these weeks of being home that you would not have done normally. Perhaps it is a jigsaw puzzle, online game, board game, cooking, etc. How many can you come up with? Get a friend or family member to make a similar list and compare.

Who is your favourite band or singer? Research and write all you know about them and try to persuade others to listen to them.

Do you believe physical activity helps your mind? Do an experiment with yourself and see if doing something physical helps you think more positively. Why or why not?

There has been a lot of research that proves that helping others helps you feel better. Think of something you could do to help one of your neighbours, family or friends during this difficult time. Do it and then write to describe what you did and how it made you feel.
